The breeding farm

and how it all started

Everyone behind Hoeve Noordenwind has a great passion for equestrian sports, but the ambition for breeding lies mainly with Kathleen. When she was a little girl -  even before owning her first horse - she already studied damlines and kept pictures of favorite stallions in scrapbooks.

As a teenager, the focus was mainly on sports. Kathleen started up several young horses and showed them up to ZZ-Z level. She has worked as a stable girl, a riding instructor and as an international show groom at various stables. During this time she has learned a lot about managing and training dressage horses, from newborn to Grand Prix level.

Kathleen picked up a lot by talking to experienced breeders and stallion owners, and seeing trainers and riders at work. She developed a clear vision and with this backpack of experience and knowledge she went her own way. In 2018 she bred her first foal, a stallion by the Grand Prix stallion Expression out of her own sport mare Efeera (ster prok sport by Zjengis Khan). From that moment on things went fast. Together with her partner she bought another breeding mare and in 2021 they made the big dream come true; buying their own accommodation, together with Arne's parents. In the coming years, more investments will be made to get closer to their breeder's goal.

breeder's Goal

Breeding a top horse; that is the dream of every breeder. But the definition of a top horse can be different for everyone. An approved stallion? A top seller at a prestigious auction? Or maybe even a breeding product at the World Championships or the Olympic Games? Whether a horse reaches that level depends on many factors, such as training, ownership, management, even a bit of luck. One thing is certain; it always starts with the breeder, which is why it is important to have a clear vision.

Our goal is to breed horses that have what it takes to perform at Grand Prix level. To achieve this, we focus on the four elements that we believe are necessary to produce a potential big tour horse.

Character

Intelligent, willing to work, brave in the arena, with the right sharpness for the higher work.

Health

Excluding heritable defects and anchoring strong genes.

Body use

Three functional gaits with a strong hind leg, suppleness through the entire body and talent for collection.

Conformation

A body that allows the horse to perform optimally.

A good sport horse doesn't necessarily have to be an exceptional mover. For the Grand Prix, those huge gaits need to be collected again. Personally, I find a cooperative character, health, a functional body use and talent to collect much more important.

Diwanda
elite ibop prok

Diwanda is the total package. Chic, a lot of suppleness, a strong hind leg, and on top of that, she's absolutely beautiful. No wonder, with honorable stallions such as Florencio, Flemmingh and Ferro in her pedigree. In addition, she is also very intelligent and super sweet, characteristics that you can clearly see in her offspring.

Daylene Reina
star ibop prok

Daylene Reina, a horse in which everything comes together. With the famous Jazz as her sire and a dam line that is carefully built up with Hurricane and Sultan by crossing Gelder with English Thoroughbred, she has all the characteristics. Diligence, strength, powerful movements and willingness to work.

Efeera
ster sport prok

Being a breeder, sometimes you have to be a little bit stubborn. When one believes in a horse, follow that faith, because a strong dam line has to start somewhere. That is the case with Efeera, because each and every one of her foals impress with their well-proportioned conformation, fantastic work ethic and great body use.
